In large parts of Spain there are processions throughout that week and certainly here in the south Andalusia. It starts on Palm Sunday with the arrival of Jesus until the resurrection on Easter Sunday. We do not have a 2nd Easter day or Boxing day, the Spaniards then just go back to work. But especially (White) Thursday and (Good) Friday everyone is free. It is a whole week of passion, full of incense, the typical music and the modesty with deep respect for the faith. Everybody, not even Catholic are impressed and it regularly gives goose bumps moments.
In 2017 a beautiful impressive video was made about the different processions in Málaga, Ronda, Mijas, Alhaurin el Grande and Seville. This already indicates that our village plays an important role in these traditions of processions. Throughout the week the chairs are in rows along the side of the streets and every time (up to 4x per day) the procession comes along. Every day another theme in the sign of the suffering of Christ. We often associate it with ku kux-klan when we see the caps on the heads, but here the tradition goes back centuries. The participants in the procession take part in their own way of penance, anonymous, visible, with limitation such as blindfolded or barefoot.

In 2026 the week starts on Sunday 29 March and ends on Easter Sunday 05 April 2026

If it appeals to you to experience this once, you have to take care to be there on time, it is always high season so ask in time for our availability …[/vc_column_text]Contact[/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_video link=”https://youtu.be/N-EzhFOI5XU”][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_single_image image=”6094″ img_size=”full” css=””][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text css=””] Semana Santa Alhaurin el Grande The Semana Santa is the holy week before Easter, as we call it the Good or Holy Week.
