Yet, it has rapidly emerged as the province&#8217;s city of culture with its so-called &#8216;mile of art&#8217; being compared to Madrid, and its dynamism and fine dining to Barcelona&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"dt-single-image\" href=\"https:\/\/casadoncarlos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/www_lonelyplanet.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-862\" data-dt-img-description=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-862\" src=\"https:\/\/casadoncarlos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/www_lonelyplanet.jpg\" alt=\"www_lonelyplanet\" width=\"145\" height=\"82\" \/><\/a>The Lonely Planet has gone on to become the world\u2019s most successful travel publisher, printing over 120 million books in eleven different languages.<\/p>\n<p>Along with guidebooks and eBooks to almost every destination on the planet so also M\u00e1laga.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;20px&#8221;][vc_accordion active_tab=&#8221;false&#8221; style=&#8221;3&#8243;][vc_accordion_tab title=&#8221;Museums&#8221;][vc_column_text]<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lonelyplanet.com\/spain\/andalucia\/malaga\/sights\/museums-galleries\/museo-automovilistico-malaga\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Automobile and Fashion Museum<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nHoused in a former tobacco factory, petrol heads and fashionistas will love this museum which combines the history of the automobile with 20th-century fashion from style gurus such as Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent and Dior. Around 85 cars have been immaculately restored, including a Bugatti, a Bentley and a fabulous flower-power-painted Rolls.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lonelyplanet.com\/spain\/andalucia\/malaga\/sights\/museums-galleries\/museo-picasso-malaga\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Picaso M\u00e1laga<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nThe Museo Picasso has an enviable collection of 204 works, 155 donated and 49 loaned to the museum by Christine Ruiz-Picasso (wife of Paul, Picasso\u2019s eldest son) and Bernard Ruiz-Picasso (his grandson), and includes some wonderful paintings of the family, including the heartfelt Paulo con gorro blanco (Paulo with a white cap), a portrait of Picasso\u2019s eldest son painted in the 1920s.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lonelyplanet.com\/spain\/andalucia\/malaga\/sights\/museums-galleries\/museo-carmen-thyssen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Carmen Thyssen Museum<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nLocated in an aesthetically renovated 16th-century palace in the heart of the city\u2019s former Moorish quarter, the extensive collection concentrates on 19th-century Spanish and Andalucian art and includes paintings by some of the country\u2019s most exceptional painters, including Joaqu\u00edn Sorolla y Bastida, Ignacio Zuloaga and Francisco de Zurbar\u00e1n. Temporary exhibitions similarly focus on 19th-century art.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lonelyplanet.com\/spain\/andalucia\/malaga\/sights\/museums-galleries\/centre-pompidou-malaga\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Centre Pompidou M\u00e1laga<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nOpened in 2015 in the port, this offshoot of the Paris Pompidou Centre is housed in a low-slung modern building crowned by a playful multicoloured cube. The permanent exhibition includes the extraordinary Ghost by Kader Attia depicting rows of Muslim women bowed in prayer created from domestic aluminum foil, plus works by such contemporary masters as Frida Kahlo, Francis Bacon and Antoni T\u00e0pies. There are also audiovisual installations, talking &#8216;heads&#8217; and temporary exhibitions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lonelyplanet.com\/spain\/andalucia\/malaga\/sights\/museums-galleries\/centro-de-arte-contemporaneo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>CAC Museum M\u00e1laga<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nThe contemporary art museum is housed in a skilfully converted 1930s wholesale market on the river estuary. The bizarre triangular floor plan of the building has been retained, with its cubist lines and shapes brilliantly displaying the modern art. Painted entirely white, windows and all, the museum exhibits works from well-known contemporary artists such as Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.museovinomalaga.com\/index.html?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wine Museum<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nThe Museum of Wine Malaga, located just in the middle of the historic town, offers a journey through the History and the culture of the wine of the distinctive province of Malaga. Our objective is to introduce and promote the wines defined by the Appellations of Origin &#8220;Malaga&#8221; and &#8220;Sierras de Malaga&#8221; and the raisins with the Denomination of Origin &#8220;Pasas de Malaga&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lonelyplanet.com\/spain\/andalucia\/malaga\/sights\/museums-galleries\/museo-ruso-de-malaga\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Russian State Museum <\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nThis offshoot of the Russian State Museum in St Petersburg opened in 2015 in a former 1920s tobacco factory where also the Automobile Museum is located. It is dedicated to Russian art from the 16th to 20th centuries, featuring works by Ilya Repin, Wassily Kandinsky and Vladimir Tatlin, among others.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lonelyplanet.com\/spain\/andalucia\/malaga\/sights\/museums-galleries\/museo-de-arte-flamenco\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Flamenco Museum<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nFabulously laid-out over two floors in the HQ of M\u00e1laga&#8217;s oldest and most prestigious pe\u00f1a (private flamenco club), this collection of fans, costumes, posters and other flamenco paraphernalia is testimony to the city&#8217;s illustrious flamenco scene.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=&#8221;Restaurants&#8221;][vc_column_text]<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mercadomerced.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mercado Merced M\u00e1laga \u2013 Gourmet Food Market<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nNot far from the birthplace of Picasso you will find the Mercado de la Merced (Market Hall). This was a small fresh market until 2015 with a neighbourhood function. After a major metamorphosis is the market renamed a hip gourmet food market and is the name shortened to Mercado Merced. With about 20 food counters is the gourmet market fun and especially delicious for everyone. There is something for every taste with Ranging from meat, fish and even vegetarian. In terms of drinks you can choose from (local) wines, different types of beer and soft drinks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lonelyplanet.com\/spain\/andalucia\/malaga\/entertainment-nightlife\/other\/bodegas-el-pimpi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Bodega bar El Pimpi<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nThis rambling bar is an institution in this town. The interior encompasses a warren of rooms with a courtyard and open terrace overlooking the Roman amphitheatre. Walls are decorated with historic feria posters and photos of visitors, while the enormous barrels are signed by more well-known folk, including Tony Blair and Antonio Banderas. Tapas and meals are also available.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To many choises<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"dt-single-image\" href=\"https:\/\/casadoncarlos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/www_lonelyplanet.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-862\" data-dt-img-description=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-862 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/casadoncarlos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/www_lonelyplanet.jpg\" alt=\"www_lonelyplanet\" width=\"109\" height=\"62\" \/><\/a>M\u00e1laga has more than\u00a0<strong>1000 restaurants and bars<\/strong>\u00a0and it&#8217;s difficult to make a selection but The lonely Planet made a nice choice on their website and we can fully recommend it.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=&#8221;Things to do&#8221;][vc_column_text]<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lonelyplanet.com\/spain\/andalucia\/malaga\/sights\/religious\/catedral-de-malaga\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Catedral Malaga<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nM\u00e1laga\u2019s cathedral was started in the 16th century on the site of the former mosque. Of this, only the Patio de los Naranjos survives, a small courtyard of fragrant orange trees. You can visit the roof of the catedral and enjoy the city skyline and coast.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Plaza de Merced<\/strong><br \/>\nPlaza de la Merced is very cosy, many Malaguenos meet each other here. They use the numberless benches on this square. During the day there is always a place in the sun to be found on this square. Also in the spring or autumn it&#8217;s a perfect place to be on one of the many terraces to eat or drink.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lonelyplanet.com\/spain\/andalucia\/malaga\/sights\/parks-gardens\/paseo-de-espana\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Park M\u00e1laga Centre<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nA palm-lined extension of the Alameda, this park was created in the 1890s on land reclaimed from the sea. The garden along its southern side is full of exotic tropical plants and trees, making a pleasant refuge from the bustle of the city. Elderly and young malague\u00f1os (people from M\u00e1laga) stroll around and take shelter in the deep shade of the tall palms, and on Sundays buskers and entertainers play to the crowds.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lonelyplanet.com\/spain\/andalucia\/malaga\/sights\/castles-palaces-mansions\/alcazaba\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alcazaba M\u00e1laga<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nNo time to visit Granada\u2019s Alhambra? Then M\u00e1laga\u2019s Alcazaba can provide a taster. The entrance is next to the Roman amphitheatre , from where a meandering path climbs amid lush greenery: crimson bougainvillea, lofty palms, fragrant jasmine bushes and rows of orange trees. Extensively restored, this palace-fortress dates from the 11th-century Moorish period; the caliphal horseshoe arches, courtyards and bubbling fountains are evocative of this influential period in M\u00e1laga\u2019s history.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lonelyplanet.com\/spain\/andalucia\/malaga\/sights\/markets-bazaars\/mercado-atarazanas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mercado Atarazanas<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>North of the city&#8217;s main artery, the Alameda Principal, you\u2019ll find this striking 19th-century iron-clad building incorporating the original Moorish gate that once connected the city with the port. The magnificent stained-glass window depicts historical highlights of the city.<\/p>\n<p>The daily market here is pleasantly noisy and animated. Choose from swaying legs of ham and rolls of sausages or cheese, fish and endless varieties of olives. The fruit and veg stalls are the most colourful, selling everything that is in season, ranging from big misshapen tomatoes, sliced and served with olive oil, chopped garlic and rough salt, to large purple onions, mild-flavoured and sweet.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lonelyplanet.com\/spain\/andalucia\/malaga\/sights\/landmarks-monuments\/roman-amphitheatre\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Teatro Romano<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nUncovered in 1951, this Roman theatre slap-bang in the city centre had lain hidden for hundreds of years. It was built in the time of Augustus (1st century AD) and remains relatively well-preserved. An adjacent interpretive centre has touch screens and some artefacts dug up from the site.
